Child's play

She looks at me with sky blue eyes,
Eyes, pleading, lets go out and play,
With nimble fingers tugging softly,
And a mind to accept anything in return.

I think a while how long it has been,
Since I tugged someone’s finger,
Since I last longed to play,
Since I last had a carefree run.

Yes, my child, how lucky you are (I say to myself)
You know what joy is, what ecstasy is,
You are still floating in untroubled bliss,
It is not you, but I who must tug.

Yes, it is I who must tug at you,
Lead me into your world,
Lead me back to my days of delight,
Then I clasp her hand as we walk into the light.
